The Simple, One-Woman Business Model that Works in 2026
I’m expecting my first baby this summer, and somewhere between planning maternity leave and researching sleep training, I started thinking about sustainability in a new way—especially in my business.
For me, ‘sustainability’ really just means efficiency.
Essentially, I want to spent my working hours on what makes impact for my community and income for my family.
Not growth for the sake of growth.
Not doing more just to keep up.
Last week, I read a Substack from Ryan Levesque that put words to something I’ve been noticing for a while.
The most efficient (and profitable) small businesses tend to come back to a two-branch business model: nurture content and premium work.
Branch 1: Long-Form, Nurture Content
On one side, you have your free (or low-cost), long-form content.
This is where people get to know, like, and trust you.
For example:
A newsletter (Substack, email list)
A podcast
YouTube
And I’ll say something slightly controversial because I know you’re wondering.
Instagram alone shouldn’t be your nurture content.
It can absolutely still be used to support your brand, but it shouldn’t be your main point of connection.
That’s because if you want someone to invest in your premium work… they need more than a 2-second touchpoint.
They need consistent, long-form content that allows for depth.
Instagram just isn’t built for that kind of connection anymore.
Branch 2: High-Value, Premium Work
On the other side, you have your highest-value work. It should solve a specific, high-value problem where you’re not trying to be everything to everyone.
For most of us, this looks like:
Coaching or consulting
Done-for-you services
High-touch creative or strategic work
It keeps you out of the “messy middle” that AI is quickly commoditizing. (courses, templates and offers that solve half the problem.)
This branch of your business should be:
The stuff you’re really good at.
Priced at a premium
Continuously refined ( You should constantly be on a mission to improve your efficiency, process and results. )
How This Model Works
This simple two-branch model works because:
It’s efficient: You know exactly what to focus on each week.
It’s profitable: Your premium work solves real problems and actually pays the bills.
But, there’s a catch.
If your brand, message, or website isn’t clear, even the best system starts to break down.
Your content doesn’t connect.
Your audience doesn’t fully understand what you do.
And your premium offer becomes harder to sell.
It starts to feel like:
slow, second-guessing content creation
inconsistent inquiries
a lot of effort… without the payoff
This is the shift I help my clients make.
Not more content.
Not more offers.
Just a clearer brand, a stronger website, and a business that finally feels like it’s working for you.
Now that’s efficiency.
P.S. If your business feels like it’s taking more effort than it should, your brand might just need a little clarity. Book a fit call here.I’d love to see if I can help.
